Please note:

This service is currently only available to customers within a defined local delivery area serviced directly by Highland BlindCraft. For those outside this area, we recommend contacting your local council for information on their individual mattress and furniture recycling policies.

According to the National Bed Federation, approximately 7.5 million mattresses end up in landfills each year.

With only around 14% of mattresses being disposed of, recycled and broken down into reusable components and materials.

That's Where We Come In...

What Happens to My Used Product?

All collected items are taken to a licensed recycling facility where materials are separated and reused.

Zero to Landfill:
All items collected through our recycling service are diverted away from landfills. We work with dedicated recycling partners to ensure that nothing is simply thrown away.

Materials Are Reused:
Once uplifted, the items are carefully dismantled. Recyclable components such as metal springs, wooden frames, foam, and textiles are separated and processed. These materials are then repurposed for use in a wide range of industries — helping conserve natural resources and reduce the need for new raw materials.

Good Condition Items May Be Reused:

In some cases, items that are still in good condition may be refurbished or reused. Our recycling partner assesses each item individually and, if appropriate, may repurpose it for resale or community use — further extending its life and reducing environmental impact.

Like for like uplift

We operate a new-for-old policy:

We uplift only the same type and number of items we deliver.
(E.g. 1 mattress delivered = 1 mattress uplifted.)

Items must be ready for collection on the day of delivery.

Bagging Items for Collection

To protect our team and your home:

Items for uplift must be sealed in the bag provided before we arrive:

  • If you order online or over the phone - You’ll receive the correct size of bag(s) via post.
  • If you order in the showroom - You'll receive the correct size of bag(s) at the time of purchase.

If the item is not bagged, it may not be collected.

If you're unable to bag the item yourself (due to health or mobility issues), please let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to assist.

What We Can't Take

For hygiene and safety reasons, we cannot accept:

  • Items that show signs of infestation (e.g. bed bugs)
  • Items that are heavily soiled or wet
  • Items that won’t fit safely in the van or haven’t been dismantled (where required)

If our delivery team determines that an item is unsuitable at the time of uplift, they may refuse collection. You won’t be charged in that case and a refund will be provided.
